SB Agricultural Services was built on a simple idea: provide honest, dependable maintenance for hardworking farmers and contractors.
Stuart Buchanan has been an engineer for over 35 years, beginning his career as an apprentice for a John Deere dealer based in West Berkshire. He studied Agricultural Engineering at Berkshire College of Agriculture, achieving a City and Guilds with Distinction.
Following his initial 3 years of qualified work, Stuart went on to work for a local Engineering firm where he had his first introduction to Heston Balers. After another two years, Stuart went exploring agriculture in Australia and New Zealand, looking at farms and the machinery that they used there. On his return, he worked for an Agricultural Contractor and really sank his teeth into driving the machinery, learning to fix kit in fields with limited resources and under time constraints. This experience gave him the drive to explore ways to keep farmers moving when it was not always a textbook scenario.
For a period of 8 years, Stuart then took some time out of agriculture to work with precision on woodwork machinery, learning to use microns and hundredths of a mm; This gave him the chance to save for his first tractor.
In 2006, Stuart began his own Agricultural Contracting business. The business grew along with his dreams, branching out into Agricultural recycling and attending country shows. He employed local people to help him and ran 2 balers, a forager and lots more. In 2016, the business ceased to trade, and Stuart continued driving for a local farm, gaining further experience in the industry. At the end of the harvest, this led to him being offered a job with a local engineering company and him getting back into the service side of agriculture.
Stuart worked with Massey, Claas and specialised in Krone equipment. He gained an amazing reputation and had a following of loyal and grateful green harvest users, staying with him regardless of the dealer.
Finally, in April of 2024, Stuart built up the courage to become an independent engineer. He set up S B Agricultural Services, where he now specialises in Green Harvest machinery and Krone, although he is happy to help anyone in need. He understands what is needed to keep machinery going in an industry where time and weather is not always on your side.
Now with customers in the whole of the UK and Southern Ireland, he has built a reputation of trust and reliability where he is always at the end of the phone and prioritises breakdowns with skill, compassion and first-hand knowledge.
